Hi everyone! I hope your day is going wonderfully. I just returned from an amazing vacation along the East Coast of the U.S with my family. However, since my suitcase has barely any dividing features, I had the idea to create these easy drawstring bags for storing shoes, undergarments, and swimsuits. They were extremely helpful in staying organized, and minimized clutter and stress during the trip. If you'd like to learn how to sew these easy bags for your next trip or for any thing at all, continue reading!
These bags could be made in larger sizes to store things like blankets, or pillows; or made in small sizes to hold earbuds, makeup, or toiletries. They are a great alternative to sewing zippers if you are a beginner sewer, and take half the time to create! Anyways, here's the tutorial.
You'll Need:
-A piece of fabric twice the size of your bag plus 1/2 an inch seam allowance on all sides except the top, add 2 inches seam allowance there.
-A long piece of ribbon
-Pins and a sewing machine or hand sewing materials
-Sewing chalk or a pen

1. Start by using a ruler or tape measure to mark two inches down from the top of your fabric. Mark with your chalk or pen on the wrong side of the fabric.
2. Fold over and pin your fabric down by touching the top edge to the line you marked.
3. Sew the top hem, BUT start and end your sewing at least and inch and a 1/2 away from the edge of your fabric. (See picture below)
4. Now just sew your bag together on two sides by folding the fabric in half. Make sure to do this right sides together. Your top hem should still be at the top.
5. Put a knot at once side of your ribbon and pin a safety pin to the end of it. Then, thread your ribbon through the hem by using the safety pin until in comes out the other side.
6. Turn your bag right side in and you are finished!
Have a wonderful night everyone!
